You’re busy. I know you are.
You wear many hats. You are running around all the time with your kids.
You have a list of things you need to get done, and it always seems like you are never able to fully complete that list.
These reasons are why you absolutely need to workout.
Something I have learned is the importance of exercise being a non-negotiable habit for me. I am the best version of myself when I am consistenly working out 3 to 4 hours a week. Research shows that is all you need to drastically reduce health risks and improve your quality of life. You don’t need to spend hours at the gym. One hour a day, 3 to 4 days a week will do the trick.
However, I also fall into the trap that so many of us do…skipping my workout whenever my schedule gets busy. Which is honestly is silly for me to do. After I workout I feel confident, clear headed, and capable.
Here are 3 tips to help you get in a consistent excercise routine, even in the busiest of times.
1. Put your workouts on your calendar
Hear me out. It works. What I do is at the start of each week I go into the Google Calendar app on my phone and literally block off 45 minutes 3 or 4 days that week. I do this before anything else. By doing so, this makes it a non-negotiable for me.
2. Be okay with not being able to give 100% every workout
“Something is better than nothing.” That is a term my wife tells me at least once a month regarding a workout. I had planned to do a certain workout and then “life” happens and I had to modify the amount of time I had dedicated to workout.
When times are hectic and your energy is being pulled in 500 different directions, is it really ideal to think that you will be able to give 100% in every workout that week while also handling everything else you have to handle? Not a chance. But 50% effort is still effort and is moving you towards your goals.
3. Have some “go to” workouts
I have 3 workouts I go to when I am short on time and need to get a workout in. They aren’t elaborate or “sexy” but they allow me to check the box of exercise for that day. I am never too busy that I don’t have 30 minutes in the day to get my heart rate elevated a little. If you need some “go to” workouts please send me an email at info@crossfitalabaster.com and I will be happy to share some with you.
Staying in shape can be challenging for some. Seasons of life will change and being able to remember these 3 tips will help you maintain your fitness even in the most chaotic of times.
