Over the years I have had hundreds of conversations with individuals about where they are currently with their health and fitness and what goals or areas they would like to improve.
I can confidently say that no two people have the same goals paired with the same circumstances. Yes, we often hear goals like “I need to lose a little weight” or “I just want to have energy to play with my kids.” No two people or their circumstances are the same so the means by which we help people move the needle towards their goals differs at time.
First step, with any potential new member we bring them in for what we call a No Sweat Intro. We don’t bring you in and run you into the ground with an intense workout that leaves you discouraged and sore for a week. We give you a quick tour of the gym and then sit down and talk about your goals and come up with a plan to get you there.
Second step is the prescription. Based on your goals and how soon you are wanting to achieve them we make a recommendation on if we feel that group classes or 1:1 personal training would be a better fit for you.
No matter the route that you take in terms of exercise at CrossFit Alabaster our mission is simple. We view exercise as a way to improve our lives in many different areas and we want that for you. A regular exercise routine can improve energy levels, confidence, strength, mobility, sleep, longevity, stress management and quality of life.
We really want people to focus on the “why” behind their goal. So let’s say we have a client who wants to lose weight. We always ask the question, “if you lose the weight in what ways would your life improve?” That is the why behind the goal. Yes losing weight is great, don’t get me wrong. But we want you to focus on the why of your goal.
We see victories all the time from clients that have nothing to do with the number they are seeing on the scale. I recently was told by one of our members that they were able to play pick up basketball for two hours with their teenage son and never thought twice about it. A year ago they would have never even agreed to doing so.
If health and wellness feels overwhelming right now, our goal is simple: meet you where you are and help you build something sustainable.
