The 3 Biggest Myths Keeping You Out of the Gym

We all live busy lives. Trust me, I get it. Between work, kids, sporting events, and trying to find time to take care of ourselves, there are so many things buying our time.

I talk with people on a monthly basis who know they need to do something for themselves to start an exercise routine or get back in shape. In my 3 years of gym ownership, there are 3 main thoughts or myths that keep people from starting an exercise routine.

I Need to Be in Shape First

Fun fact about me: I failed my math class my freshman year of college. After years of not paying attention in high school math and relying on group tests, it came back to bite me. I knew within the first week of this math class that I was in trouble. First test of the semester? An F. If there was anything below an F, I probably would have gotten it.

A month before the end of the semester, I went to find a tutor. The tutor looked at my grade and the fact that we had 4 weeks left in the semester, and he politely told me that there was nothing he could do to help me get my grade to a passing level.

How different would this outcome have potentially been if I would have gotten the tutor at the first sign of trouble and realized I needed help?

So how does this apply to health and fitness? If you are waiting to get in shape to join a gym, there is a good chance that you will never join a gym. If you knew what to do, you most likely would already be doing it.

I Don’t Have Time

Busy schedule? Taking the kids to and from places? Work meetings? Trust me, I get it. There are so many things that require our time these days. And if you let it, that thought process will keep you from starting any routine, especially an exercise routine.

I hired a coach for myself a little over a year ago. It was something I knew I needed to do for years. But I always told myself that I would wait until things slowed down or that my kids were in grade school. Fun fact: life is always going to be busy.

Now, I don’t want to paint a picture that you need to spend hours upon hours in a gym to move the needle on your health. Ninety minutes of exercise a week will get you toward the goals you want. That’s 2 to 3 sessions a week. I bet if you went to your calendar right now, you could find some openings to fit in some workouts.

I Don’t Need to Lift Weights

Yes, you do. Strength training has never been more important than it is right now.

With the use of GLP-1s on the rise, strength training matters so much more than ever. The use of weight loss medications paired with strength training can be a crucial combo for people reaching their goals and improving their health.

Conclusion
