We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on Dominick, or “Dom” as we call him, an incredible individual who has achieved a truly remarkable milestone: 100-pounds of weight loss!
This is a testament to Dom’s dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to his health and fitness goals.
In this post he shares part of his journey along with some advice for anyone looking to get started on their own health and fitness journey.
1. What motivated you to start your fitness journey?
“Coaching basketball for my son’s team last winter was a real eye opener. Being unable to run up and down court with them, demonstrate the techniques etc. After meeting with doctor and hearing about risks of high blood pressure and cholesterol, I knew I had to do something.”
2. How has your life changed since losing 100 pounds?
Starting with CrossFit I immediately saw a difference in my energy levels, sleep patterns and overall health. The diet was tough, calorie deficit for 6 months even harder. But now, it is a part of my lifestyle, no longer what I “Can’t ” have but more what I “want” to have. Sharing my journey with my friends family has been inspirational and humbling and I cannot wait to see where I am at in another year.
3. How has our gym community helped you on your journey?
Working out in groups has helped tremendously. I could NOT have done this alone. Not just the encouragement but the accountability. Going from unable to hold myself up for a few pushups to completing 10,000 Push Up challenges, Unable to Hold my weight on a bar to doing a bar muscle-up, Unable to run 100m without stopping to consistently running 5ks throughout the week, these are all possible because of the community I have around me. The competition to chase the next “rabbit” always helps too!
4. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their fitness journey?
Don’t step in, dive in! Embrace the Suck. Don’t Quit. Find your community and don’t look back. The progress is slow, but totally worth all the changes. Diets don’t work, change your outlook on food, study what your body enjoys and needs. Don’t think of anything as a restriction, but more as something hindering your goals.
5. What is one piece of advice you would give to your past self?
I tried many times to “diet” to control weight gain. I think as I said above, I never jumped in full speed. I would go back and tell myself that I deserved to care about my health and longevity. I do this for my family, so I can be the Husband and Father they need.
6. What are your fitness goals for the future?
My current goals are to bring my 5k pace to sub 7 minutes and eventually start running 10k consistently. Perform all the workouts in the CrossFit Open in 2025 under the “RX” division. But above all, be able to participate in my kids’ lives full heartedly and without struggle. To be there for them for many many years to come!
Dom’s journey is a powerful reminder that with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible. Their story is a reminder of hope for anyone striving to improve their health and well-being.
We’re incredibly proud of Dom’s achievements and look forward to supporting him on his continued fitness journey!
