1,000 Classes Later: How Consistency Built Something Bigger for Buddy

If you’ve ever struggled to stay consistent with your fitness routine, you’re not alone. But what if we told you that one of our members just hit 1,000 classes — yes, one thousand early mornings, workouts, and moments of showing up when it would’ve been easier to stay in bed?

Meet Buddy, a dedicated 5 a.m. regular who proves that results come from showing up, not just when it’s easy, but especially when it’s not.

Finding His Place
When he first moved to the area, he was simply looking for a good workout and maybe a way to meet some new people. What he found was both — and then some.
“When I moved here, I was looking for two things: a good workout and a way to meet people. The 5 a.m. class gave me both. Those early mornings have turned strangers into some of my closest friends and they keep me accountable to make sure I don’t miss a day.”

That sense of community has become the glue that keeps him coming back day after day, year after year.

Making It a Routine
If you ask him, it’s not about motivation anymore — it’s about routine.
“Going to the 5 a.m. class, my routine is what keeps me going. It can be hard waking up at 4, but knowing everyone is going to be there helps motivate me not to skip any classes.

That blend of humor, accountability, and habit is what long-term success looks like. It’s not about perfection. It’s about showing up.

Evolving Motivation
At first, it was about getting back in shape and finding a workout that stuck. Now, the motivation runs deeper.

“When I first started, it was a way to get back in the gym and sweat a little. These days I’m just trying to be the best I can be. Hopefully one day we can take top prize at Mayhem on the Mountain.”

The drive to improve — and the friendships that fuel it — have made all the difference.

A Community Like No Other
The 5 a.m. crew has its own energy — equal parts laughter, accountability, and a little bit of chaos.
“The community is the reason I show up every day. There are plenty of gyms, but the coaches and people at 5 a.m. are hard to replicate — truly a unique bunch. Coaches Rich, CJ, Katelyn, put up with a lot. Very thankful for their patience.”

At CrossFit Alabaster, that’s what we’re all about — a place where you can push hard, laugh a lot, and be surrounded by people who make you better.

Lessons from 1,000 Classes
A thousand classes teach you a few things — especially about yourself.
“I think I’ve learned the value of consistency and nutrition. Showing up day in and day out and eating plenty of General Tso Chicken has made a huge difference.”

More than anything, he’s learned that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish — it’s what allows you to take care of others.
“I firmly believe you need to fill your own cup before you can pour into others. That hour every morning is what sets my day and allows me to give back to everyone else.”

His Best Advice
“Get a Cassie Masteller in your life. 🤣If you can’t get that, then I would say set a routine that makes it a priority. I chose to start going to 5 a.m. classes because that’s the only time in the day I will always be available.”

His story is proof that no matter how busy life gets, it’s possible to create a routine that works for you — one that helps you build strength, confidence, and lifelong friendships along the way.

Here’s to the next 1,000.
