“I just don’t have enough time.”
How many times have you said that?
I know I have.
And I completely understand it.
Life is busy.
Work gets busy. Kids have activities. There are appointments, errands, meals to cook, laundry to do, houses to clean, and a million other things that seem to pop up every week.
For a lot of people, getting healthier keeps getting pushed down the list because they are waiting for something to happen.
They are waiting for life to slow down.
But what if it doesn’t?
What if this is just your life?
Life Isn’t Going to Slow Down
I think one of the biggest mistakes we can make is thinking we will have more time later.
“I’ll start when work slows down.”
“I’ll start when the kids are older.”
“I’ll start after this season of life.”
“I’ll start when things calm down.”
The problem is that there is always going to be something.
And that’s why I think instead of waiting for more time, we need to figure out how to use the time we already have.
One of our personal training clients, Bridget, is a great example of this.
Bridget has been working with us since January.
She is a mom of three boys. She does A LOT for her family, and she works on top of all of that.
Her life isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
She could easily say, “I’ll start when I have more time.”
But she didn’t.
Instead, she started with the time she had.
She didn’t wait for the perfect schedule to appear.
She found time that worked for her and started there.
And she has seen some great results so far.
That’s what I love about her story.
It isn’t about having a wide-open schedule.
It’s about making your health important enough to find a place for it.
You Don’t Need 2 Hours
I think sometimes we make exercise way more complicated than it needs to be.
You don’t need to spend two hours in the gym.
You don’t need to work out six days a week.
You don’t need a perfect schedule.
For most busy adults, a great place to start might be:
•2 to 3 workouts per week
•30 to 45 minutes per workout
•Walking more throughout the day
•Prioritizing protein and nutritious foods
•Getting enough sleep
•Doing something instead of nothing
That’s it.
It doesn’t sound exciting.
But simple things done consistently can create some pretty incredible results.
Stop Waiting for Perfect
There is always going to be a reason why today isn’t the perfect day to start.
But you don’t need a perfect day.
You need a realistic plan.
Maybe you only have 30 minutes.
Use the 30 minutes.
Maybe you can only work out twice this week.
Go twice.
Maybe your nutrition isn’t going to be perfect.
Make one better choice.
Maybe you miss a workout.
Get back at it the next day.
The goal isn’t to build a routine that works when life is perfect.
The goal is to build a routine that works when life is busy.
Because life isn’t going to stop so you can get healthy.
You have to learn how to take care of yourself while life is happening around you.
That’s what Bridget has done.
She didn’t wait for more time.
She started with the time she had.
And that’s a lesson that I think a lot of us could use.
You don’t need more time. You need a plan that fits the life you already have.
