14 Years of CrossFit Alabaster: More Than Just a Gym

Today, we celebrate 14 years.

14 years of changing people’s lives by meeting them where they are in their current season of life and showing them that exercise is meant to be fun.

We are proud of these 14 years.

You see, 78% of gyms stay open past a year. That number drops even more when you look at gyms that stay open past five years. 51% stay open past five years. That number drops drastically when you look at how many stay open past 10 years. It is only 33%.

When you look at those numbers, you can see that it takes something special to serve people for as many years as we have.

I moved to Alabaster in August of 2016. I knew nobody. Not a single soul.

I was previously a member of a CrossFit gym in college and made a lot of friends that way, so I figured I would join a gym since I had moved to a new city.

My very first night in our rental home, I sent an email to CrossFit Alabaster and said I was looking to join.

That next day, I attended an afternoon class. From day one, I noticed something different about CrossFit Alabaster when compared to other gyms I had been to.

I felt welcome there. Like I had been a member there for years.

The community at our gym is something special, and I will always stand by that.

I am writing this as the owner now, but when I started, by no means was I the owner. Our first owner, Leigh, did a great job of building a foundation that was centered around community and creating a place that was welcoming to anyone and everyone.

Joining CrossFit Alabaster was one of the best decisions of my life.

When I originally moved to Alabaster, it wasn’t supposed to be for more than a year or two. I can confidently say that the gym was the deciding factor for us to stay in this area.

My family has planted roots here. My wife and I love the area, and our kids will grow up and go to school here.

Gyms are often seen as a place for people to improve their health and fitness.

They are. Don’t get me wrong.

But gyms like ours are so much more than that.

CrossFit Alabaster is a place for people to come in and make that hour of the day they are in our facility the best hour of their day.

There are so many stresses in life. I want our gym to be a place for people to come in and decompress.

To current members, former members, and anyone who has ever worked out at CrossFit Alabaster, I wanted to take a moment and say thank you.

Thank you for trusting us in some capacity over these past 14 years. We would not be here without you.

Here is to 14 more years!
